These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Originally from West Bengal, Vicky Roy ran away from home as a child and began life on the streets, working as a ragpicker at the New Delhi Railway Station. His life took a transformative turn when he was rehabilitated by Salaam Baalak Trust, Delhi. Pursuing his passion for photography, he studied at Triveni Kala Sangam and apprenticed under Anay Mann. In 2007, Vicky held his first solo exhibition, Street Dream, at India Habitat Centre, supported by the British High Commission. The following year, he was selected by the Maybach Foundation to document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center in New York, and studied documentary photography at the International Center for Photography, New York. Vicky's work has been showcased globally, including in exhibitions at the Vadehra Art Gallery, Houston FotoFest Biennial, Kochi-Muziris Biennale, and Asia Society Texas Center. He has received the MIT Media Fellowship and was featured in Forbes Asia 30 Under 30.
