Jenks Youth
x = independently organized TED event

This event occurred on
April 30, 2025
Jenks, Oklahoma
United States

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Addison Falat

Student
Addison Falat is a junior at Jenks High School. She is a part of the Jenks Trojanaires, as well as Student Council, the National Honor Society, Tri-M, and the International Scholars Program. Outside of school, she is also involved with the National Charity League, serving on the national board, and she works for The Pearl House. Her TED Talk aims to highlight the behind-the-scenes effects of complaining. While most everyone understands that complaining is “bad”, few realize the true depth of its negative impact. The difference between her life before and after researching this topic has been drastic, and she hopes to inspire others to reevaluate the way they view their words and thoughts as well!

Aiyaz Sayeed

Hi, I’m Aiyaz Sayeed, a sophomore at Jenks High School! I’m a part of TSA, Academic Team, Speech & Debate, Math Club, Pre-Med Club, Science Olympiad, and Jenks ISP! Growing up, learning about cultures and geography has always been my passion, and I have always appreciated every culture’s various differences and uniqueness. However, over the past few years, I’ve noticed an emerging problem of how common the oversimplification of cultures has been, which has had various negative impacts on the mental health and social identity of our communities.

Alayna Kundi

Hi! My name is Alayna Kundi, and I’m a junior here at Jenks. I’m part of Speech and Debate, an officer in the Jenks MSA, and a member of the International Scholars Program and Pre-Law Club. Throughout my life, the Hijab has been a huge part of my identity. Through TEDx, I want to create a safe space where people can learn about what the Hijab truly means, along with the implications of wearing it. Misconceptions about the Hijab and Islam have real-life consequences. I believe we can overcome stereotypes by fostering a collective understanding and education about topics such as these.

I feel like there is a lot to be done and accomplished towards tackling this burning issue.

Vung Khawm

Hi everyone! My name is Vung Khawm. I’m a freshman at Jenks High School. Over the past year, I’ve realized a common recurrence in which mental disorders, specifically OCD, were easily mentioned as jokes or “quirky habits”. This frustrated me personally as I felt my experiences were being swept under the rug with a mere depiction. This motivated me to give a TED Talk for more awareness.

Vung Lian

Hi! I’m Vung Lian, a senior at Jenks HS and I’m so beyond thrilled to share with you something that’s been poking my mind lately. Since 2021, lives were interrupted by senseless killings in the same place that those in positions of power have already caused lifelong emotional and physical scars.
