Upanga Youth
x = independently organized TED event

This event occurred on
April 5, 2025
Dar Es Salaam, Dar es Salaam
Tanzania

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Amaechi Nduka-Agwu

Amaechi Nduka-Agwu is a registered counseling psychologist and solution-focused therapist, with a passion for making her field more neurodiversity-affirming, moving away from seeing differences as deficits. She spends a lot of her time helping people better understand and appreciate their uniquely-wired brains, so they can find strategies and tools that work for them, and not just for the neurotypical world they live in. Contrary to what some might think, as a therapist, she spends much more time discussing people's hopes, strengths, and what's already working for them than she does listening to problems. In her talk, she discusses the importance of social skills and meeting each other in the middle.

Bethany Duffield

Bethany Duffield, a Science teacher at the International School of Tanganyika, has lived and worked in East Africa for 15 years, focusing on health and education. She shares stories from her health crises as well as those of individuals she has encountered throughout her journey. Her goal is to challenge today's youth to embrace innovation and advocate for the fundamental principle that everyone deserves the right to healthcare.

Prisha Kanabar

Prisha Lalit Kanabar, a Grade 12 student at the International School of Tanganyika, has set out to investigate the Butterfly Effect in everyday life - specifically in Science, Medicine, and Service. Passionate about these causes, Prisha aims to integrate these topics into her future career and bring forward change, similar to a butterfly. She aims to challenge and inspire the audience to consider how the butterfly effect is prevalent in their everyday lives and understand that small actions and changes can cause large, meaningful outcomes.

Sophia Klaits

Sophie Klaits is dedicated to teaching and understanding different ideologies. She loves literature and plans to teach it one day. She plans on studying Sociology with a minor in Education at Barnard College next year. She wanted to highlight Iris Macias for being her biggest inspiration and, by far, her truest comrade. She hopes to capture the peace and love intrinsic to socialism and propel the fight for a better world.

Sylvester Mtenga

Sylvester is a passionate tech enthusiast, writer, speaker, and aspiring diplomat with a strong interest in international development, policy analysis, and research. He is mainly interested in the workings of the United Nations, serves as a correspondent for the Commonwealth, and is a HundrED org Youth Ambassador. Sylvester also hosts the Commonwealth Youth Voices podcast, where he engages thought leaders and changemakers on pressing global issues.
